The Raayai laboratory’s focus was on investigating the response of fluid flow to complex geometric boundaries such as textured surfaces and arrays of objects. Inspired by natural cases like ribs on shark scales and flight formation in pelicans, at the Rowland, they aimed to understand the interplay of geometry and flow dynamics, and to utilize this understanding in designing and fabricating energy-efficient surfaces for various hydro- or aerodynamic applications.
