In the Rayshubskiy lab at the Rowland Institute we are working at the interface between neuro-engineering and neurobiology using the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, as a model system: (1) we are developing the fruit fly as a micro-robotics platform and (2) we are studying the basic biology of how flies use noisy sources of information during navigation. We are leveraging the recently revealed circuit diagram of many neural circuits in the fly’s brain and the fact that flies can execute complex behaviors on a floating ball while we perform calcium imaging on a population of neurons.
